Mental Health

We understand that individuals with mental health needs have the potential
to recover, and this belief fundamentally shapes our approach to delivering supported
housing and care.

We know that people with mental health needs can and do recover.

With appropriate support, individuals with mental health needs can lead fulfilling lives within the community. These principles guide our approach to providing support, care, and
housing services.
We develop and implement integrated, recovery-oriented, person-centred services in collaboration with the NHS. Our support spans all stages of the mental health journey, with a
focus on helping individuals develop skills, achieve independence, and maintain wellness while living in the community were possible.

How do we treat your mental health with care?

We take pride in being among the leading providers of specialized mental health support services in London and the Southeast. In collaboration with the NHS, we offer a diverse array of services, ranging from hospital discharge and community-based rehabilitation to crisis houses, forensic step-down programs, and medication management schemes.

In the past year alone, we have provided 34 specialized mental health services across 18 local authorities and seven Integrated Care Systems, benefiting over 1400 individuals.

Our approach

With a cumulative experience of over 25 years, our BAC team specializes in empowering individuals to make choices, take charge, and progress in their lives through our personalized, co-produced approach. Our services are delivered in collaboration with healthcare partners.

We operate across the entire mental health continuum, working alongside the NHS, Integrated Care Systems, and local authorities to enhance customer outcomes and ease pressure on the healthcare system.

Across our mental health services, we do this through our recovery approach, supporting everyone:

  • As an individual with unique strengths, aspirations, and objectives
  • With empathy and understanding, recognizing beyond their clinical label.
  • To build their abilities, resilience, hope, and confidence
  •  To lead a meaningful and fulfilling life, acknowledging but not confined by their
    requirements or diagnosis.
  • In collaboration with the NHS and healthcare professionals, ensuring access to
necessary clinical and social assistance for all.
  •  Addressing both physical health and mental wellbeing, helping in the management
of risk factors and comorbidities, accessing primary and specialized services, and
    promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Our services include:

Our Crisis and Recovery Houses offer an alternative to acute hospitalization for
individuals facing a mental health crisis or relapse. Developed in collaboration with
clinical teams, these facilities provide round-the-clock short-term, intensive support,
serving as a credible community-based substitute for inpatient care. BAC is
committed to collaborating with the NHS and inpatient statutory organizations to
establish temporary accommodation facilities for mental health support and facilitate
a suitable transition pathway.

Our hospital discharge services aim to expedite the return of individuals from mental health
inpatient wards to their homes once their clinical requirements have been fulfilled. In some
cases, patients are prepared to leave the hospital but encounter non-medical obstacles to
being discharged.
Upon referral, patients are engaged with our team on the ward to address these barriers.
These may pertain to housing, access to social care services or ongoing support, paperwork,
benefit applications, or immigration matters. We also offer repatriation services for patients
wishing to return to their country of origin if they are outside the UK. Our staff are stationed
at hospitals and collaborate closely with NHS counterparts, sharing resources and office
space.
Many patients subsequently benefit from our affiliated floating support services, which
provide assistance, seven days a week, including out-of-hours support. This assistance
encompasses medication management, tenancy issues, social concerns, and other matters,
helping to resolve issues before they escalate and thus contributing to the reduction of
crises and unplanned emergency admissions.

Our rehabilitation services offer supported housing, clinical intervention, and therapeutic
assistance to individuals transitioning from hospital settings – addressing key factors crucial
for their long-term recovery. These services aid individuals in transitioning from inpatient,
secure, or care facilities to independent living in their own residences. They frequently assist

individuals who have resided in institutions or outside their borough, often for extended
periods.
Typically, these services subcontract clinical support from the local NHS mental health trust.
Our support staff collaborate closely with clinicians, including psychiatrists, occupational
therapists, and CMHT colleagues, to support individuals throughout their rehabilitation and
recovery journey.

Our forensic step-down services cater to individuals with significant mental health
needs and forensic backgrounds who are transitioning from secure or forensic care
settings. Our dedicated and specialized teams provide round-the-clock
accommodation-based support, ensuring safety and responsiveness in collaboration
with clinical teams and statutory agencies.

Our medication support teams offer personalized assistance to individuals within their
residences, aiding them in cultivating the awareness, abilities, and routines
necessary to manage their medication independently. Our teams conduct daily
(sometimes more frequent) visits to dispense, monitor, or administer medication,
collaborating closely with clinical teams to adjust support levels based on customers'
changing needs.

The majority of individuals we help benefit from our supported housing services, which
encompass both accommodation-based hostels and floating support services.
Our accommodation-based services offer varying levels of support, ranging from intensive
24-hour supported housing for individuals transitioning from care or hospital settings to
medium and low-level support, where customers usually transition within two years. As a
registered social landlord, we can deliver these services in properties owned by us or others.
Our floating support services offer flexible assistance to individuals with mental
health needs within their own residences. We aid them in effectively managing and
preserving their tenancies while promoting overall wellness, engagement, and
meaningful participation in their community.
